Ouachita Trail (OT)

The OT is a National Recreation Trail for hikers that stretches almost 222 miles across one of Arkansas & Oklahoma’s most scenic regions, the Ouachita Mountains. Our three-part topographic Backcountry Maps, Thru-Hiker & Single-Track Series, covers this area in dramatic detail from the highest and rugged peaks in the west to gently rolling hills in the east. These are the only recreationally focused topographic maps available for purchase that cover the Ouachita National Forest in Arkansas & Oklahoma. So no matter what section of the OT you want to hike, bike or explore, you now have the perfect maps to make it possible.

Ouachita Trail Western (Map 1 of 3)

Recreational opportunities abound in the western coverage area with 80 trail miles from Talimena State Park to the Turner Gap Shelter. There are also hundreds of miles of multi-use trails in and around the Winding Stair Mountain Recreation Area.

A majority of this section follows Winding Stair and Rich Mountain before dropping into the Ouachita River Valley and then following another ridgeline to Turner Gap Shelter. Views of the Ouachita & Kiamichi River Valleys are nearly unlimited from the highest peaks in the Ouachitas. Within the coverage area, you’ll also find recreational opportunities in Ouachita National Forest, Upper Kiamichi River & Black Fork Mountain Wilderness Areas, Winding Stair Recreation Area, Talimena Scenic Byway, and Queen Wilhelmina State Park.
